Protect Your Patches!

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure that patches on your items remain secure and vibrant over time. Here are some guidelines to help you maintain your patches

Washing Instructions

Wait Before Washing: After applying an iron-on patch, allow at least 24 hours before washing to ensure the adhesive sets properly.

Turn Inside Out: Always turn your garment inside out before washing. This minimizes friction on the patch and helps preserve its appearance.

Use Cold Water: Wash your item in cold water using a gentle cycle. Hot water can weaken the adhesive, leading to peeling or lifting of the patch.

Mild Detergent: Opt for a mild detergent to prevent any potential damage or fading to the patch design.

Hand Washing Preferred: For optimal care, hand washing is recommended, especially for garments with multiple or delicate patches.

Drying Guidelines
Avoid the Dryer: Do not tumble dry patched items. The heat can compromise the adhesive, causing the patch to loosen or peel.

Air Dry: Lay your item flat or hang to air dry. This method helps maintain the integrity of the item's fabric and the patch.

Applying Patches at Home?

See below for our recommended method for the best results.

How to Apply

To preheat the garment, use your iron to press the area where the patch will go for 5–10 seconds. This helps remove any moisture and wrinkles for better adhesion.

Next, place the patch adhesive-side down on the garment. Use heat-resistant tape if needed to hold it securely in place.

Cover with a pressing cloth to protect both the patch and the fabric from direct heat.

Set your iron to the proper settings:
  • Temperature: 320°F–350°F (160°C–177°C)
  • Pressure: Medium to firm
  • Time: 15–20 seconds

Now, press and hold. Close the press and apply steady pressure for the full time—avoid moving it around.

Finally, let it cool completely before checking the edges. If any part hasn’t fully adhered, press again for a few more seconds.

Maintenance & Additional Tips

Inspect Regularly:
After each wash, check the edges of the patch for any signs of lifting. If you notice any, reapply heat using an iron with a pressing cloth for about 10 seconds to reinforce the bond.

Consider Sewing: For added durability, especially on high-movement areas like knees or thighs, consider sewing around the edges of the patch. This provides extra security and prolongs the patch's lifespan.

Avoid Sharp Corners: When applying new patches, opt for designs with rounded edges. Sharp corners are more prone to lifting and may reduce the patch's longevity.

Proper Application: Ensure the patch is applied correctly by using a high heat setting on your iron (without steam), pressing firmly for 20-30 seconds, and allowing it to cool completely before wearing.
