5 Fun Memorial Day Activities

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and a time to honor those who have fallen while serving in the United States Armed Services. After paying respect to those brave souls, it’s also the perfect time to enjoy some quality time with family and friends. The kids are off from school, parents are (hopefully) enjoying a day off from work…so why not make the most of the day?

Here are five fun ways to spend Memorial Day!

1. Attend a Memorial Day Parade

Parades are a Memorial Day tradition, and it’s a great, family activity to start the day off. Get our bright and early, grab breakfast with the family, and head to your prime, parade-viewing spot to snag the best seat. If it’s a sunny day, don’t forget the sunscreen, too!

You can check your town or city’s social media pages or official websites for postings about your local Memorial Day parade.

2. Visit a Veterans Memorial

Before you start celebrating and enjoying your day off, take time to remember and honor those who sacrificed their lives to give you that very freedom. Visiting a veterans memorial is a sobering experience, and a poignant reminder of the day’s true meaning.

3. Visit a Zoo, Aquarium, or a Museum

So, you’ve got the day off…why not save the barbecuing for supper time, and spend the late morning and early afternoon someplace that’s fun and educational? Learn about the amazing animals around the world, and see them up close and personal at a local zoo or aquarium! The best zoos and aquariums provide state-of-the-art care for their animals and also contribute greatly to conservation and education – both of which are extremely important!

Of course…if you prefer a more climate-controlled environment, then go get cultured at a local museum! It’s just as fun, honestly, and you see & learn something new with every visit.

So, it’s finally time to fire up the ol’ grill! Memorial Day is a great time to gather family and friends for some good eats and quality time spent together. Nothing beats a good burger or hot dog on a warm, sunny day!

5. Take It Easy at Home!

Relax at home this Memorial Day

Seems like a no-brainer, right? Life moves so fast, and everyone is so busy all the time, that a little reminder to take it easy every now and then goes a long way.

So, you’ve got the day off. That doesn’t mean you need to GO GO GO! Sleep in, eat a late breakfast, catch up on your favorite TV shows or your latest book. A little R&R goes a long way, after all.
