Wine Tasting Party

In these tough economic times, going out for a date or night out with the girls isn’t as easy as it used to be.  A movie for two is now over $20 and good luck spending less than that during a night out with your girlfriends.  In an effort to have better management over my bank account and more importantly my weight; staying in is proving to be a smarter choice.  Let’s face it, when you go out for “a” drink…it usually ends up being a few. Not to mention the appetizers that you are just going to have a “bite” of.

A few weeks ago I tried something I don’t normally do. I hosted a wine tasting party. I am more of a martini or margarita girl myself but a) martinis are SO expensive and b) I’m getting too old to drink tequila without getting a massive hangover the next day, so I figured I would try something new.

To me wine used to be synonymous with women wearing polos and pearls.  How cultured am I?  There is a lot about wine that I did not know.  I blame it on the fact that I went to a small college in New Hampshire.  The only wine anyone consumed there was from a box (not that there’s anything wrong with that, to each their own)!

The short of this is that an inexpensive way to get the girls together for a fun night is to host a wine tasting party.  Ask each attendee to bring a bottle of wine and light appetizer.  Here’s the trick, make them tell you why they

purchased that wine and why they paired that appetizer with it. There are certain rules you are supposed to follow with wine consumption and food (best to consult the experts, or their books).

My favorite pairing: Riesling and Fruit Salad.

Judging by the plethora of Wine themed invitations to choose from, I’m not alone in my hosting.  I’ve narrowed it down to the following choices…Bon Appetite!

While you’re probably short on barrels, you can always offer guests one very large glass. This one from Jumpin’ Banana holds an entire bottle!

Great idea! A much better way of having a girls night in without pressuring your friends into buying candles or beauty products!
