Happy Hogmanay, just a nod to our Scottish friends who gave us the New Year's classic, "Auld Lang Syne." We also owe the Scots for the rowdy celebration New Year's is with singing, dancing, fireworks and the gathering of friends.
Another First Night tradition in Scotland is "first-footing" where neighbors visit one another after midnight sometimes with traditional gifts of coal for the fire or shortbread. It's considered good luck to have the first visitor at your door after midnight be a tall dark handsome man....I don't know about this one as I always consider a tall dark handsome man at my door good luck. No?
